Who am I?

My name is Connie Tina McGregor (formerly Bomberry). I am Mohawk on my mom’s side and Cayuga on my dad’s side. I grew up on Six Nations where I attended S.S. #3 school for Grades 1-6. I attended Grades 7 and 8 at J.C. Hill School. I spent my high school years at Brantford Collegiate Institute and Vocational School (BCI & VS). I graduated when I was sixteen years old and moved to Toronto to attend Humber College where I graduated from the Developmental Services Worker Program. I was determined to be a teacher so I continued my education at Trent University and completed the Concurrent Education Program with a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Education (B.A and B.Ed).

What is important to me?

Education has always been very important to me. Education has opened doors for me to travel and meet new people. Family and friends are also very important to me.It is wonderful when the friends that I meet, become my family. Healing and moving forward is my daily focus. I love my life and every kindness that Creator lays before me.

Where have I been?

I have always loved to travel starting when I was sixteen and I left my home community of Six Nations to attend Humber College in Toronto. A year later, I participated in a work study program in St.Vincent and the Grenadines in the Caribbean. The travel bug took me took Cuba, Dominican Republic and Jamaica on holidays. Education has taken me to Peterborough, Kingston, London and Windsor.I’ve had the honour of teaching Grade 5 and 6 in Kashechewan (on the James Bay coast) and Grade 4 on Walpole Island First Nation. I finally made my way home to Six Nations in 2004. I taught Special Education classes, consulted with teachers on Special Education practices, and even taught Grade 8 for a few years. I have led research in education and I’ve been the Community Outreach Coordinator at a local high school. I continue to travel to powwows which take me to many First Nation communities where I learn more and further appreciate Indigenous knowledge and truth.
